Swim For Tim

It’s almost that time of year again!

The annual fundraising swim marathon we call Swim for Tim (“Swim4Tim” if you’re a hipster, “S4T” if you’re ultra-hip) will be held on the weekend of July 18th.

Funds raised during Swim for Tim support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund.  In the seven years we’ve been doing this, we’ve raised almost $52,000!

So get ready to do some swimming and help us in this noble cause!  Most everything you need to know is here at the Swim for Tim website.

But in summary:

  • Set a goal for the distance you will swim
  • Gather pledges.  Get people to sponsor you per stroke, per lap, per mile, per hour, per day, you choose.
  • Swim, swim, swim between noon and 10pm on both Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th.
  • Redeem your pledges and help the JDRF!
  • Feel great!

Kids over 13 and on the swim or dive teams can join in the traditional S4T sleepover.  Swim, watch movies, and hang out overnight on the Saturday night.  What’s better than empty water at 3am and not a shark in sight?

Parents can join in the fun too as a chaperone for the overnight.  It’s the grown up equivalent of “hanging out”.  There’s usually a poker game (with the pot going to the JDRF),  starry nights,  good conversation, late-night swimming.

Oh, and last but not least, there’s Golf for Tim, the 5th annual golf match that also benefits the JDRF.  More on that to come.

(“Tim”, in case you’re wondering, was a longtime Glenwood member who was instrumental in the renovation of the pool that makes it what it is today.  He died of complications of diabetes in 2004, shortly before the renovation was complete).
